It’s February!

This year is already flying! Tokyo has received some snow, but it seems that it will be a short winter and spring will be here before we know it!

What are your plans for spring? Why not plan a trip to Japan for the Cherry Blossom blooming? It’s a fabulous time to be in Japan and a great season for spending time with friends under the cheery tree.

Cheers to spring!

Tokyo Auto Salon 2012

Is happening now! And you are missing it!

What is it, you ask? It is a large 3 day exhibition for auto makers and performance specialists to show off their products. Held in Chiba prefecture at Makuhari Messe the second weekend in January, this event is a sight to see!

If you decide to tour Tokyo next January and you are into cars I suggest you put this on your list of must do’s!

Want to see pictures of all the fun stuff from the event just google TOKYO AUTO SALON.

Daily Life – 100 YEN SHOPS

While much of Tokyo is costly to live and be entertained in, there is one small saving grace, and that is the 100 yen shops.

While there are many to choose from, offering anything under the sun, there are two which I prefer. First one being Lawson Store 100, and the second being Flet’s. Both offer edible products to cleaning supplies and are open 24 hours just incase you need something on a moments notice.

However I find that there are a lot more Lawson Store 100′s around, some being in the same vicinity of a regular full price Lawson store. I enjoy the convenience that a 100 yen shop gives me when I am in hurry but also when I am not and want to do my shopping as a supplement to the grocery store and other shopping markets. I find that juices, coffee, and sometimes fruit is far cheaper to purchase at Lawson store 100.

So next time you have an extra moment to explore your neighborhood, find out if there is a 100 yen shop that you can do some shopping at.

The Count Down Party! NYE for 2012

New years eve is just around the corner and where you will spend that big night is quite the important decision, but since you are in Tokyo you got step one covered.

There are countless clubs, bars, and the like to go to. But also many people stay in to celebrate with their family because they believe if they aren’t together for the new year they won’t be together at the end.

So no matter where you find yourself this NYE, make sure you are with the ones you love, or at least loving every minute of the huge rager that is NYE in Tokyo!

Coffee Break – ライオンのいるサーカス THE CIRCUS LION

Coffee, it’s a noun and it’s an adjective, but in this case let’s use it in part of a sentence as in “Let’s have a coffee break” and for that coffee break I suggest a great spot in Ebisu called ライオンのいるサーカス.

While they have more then coffee, including alcohol, I found myself here several times a week to enjoy some refreshing ice coffee served to me by the friendly and attentive staff. The seats are cosy, the atmosphere relaxed, and the menu filled with many tasty items that you will want to come again and again. Art on the wall is eclectic and some pieces are for sale. Smoking is O.K. and for that you can enjoy the quaint outdoor seating while being whisked away from Tokyo’s hustle and bustle.

Daytime seating is readily available, but if you want to have a larger group or wish to visit at night for a great meal, a reservation is highly recommended.

While ライオンのいるサーカス is just a quick 3 minute walk from Ebisu station and found on the 3rd floor of the building it is located in, visit their website for the address in English.

Lunch/ Dinner – SPANISH LOUNGE PARADOR

Looking for some unique food while in Tokyo, how about trying some scrumptious Spanish food?!

Our tour of Tokyo takes us to Ebisu and to a restaurant that I enjoy eating at, Spanish Lounge Parador. From the moment you walk in you feel welcome. Not just because of the attentive staff, but because of the relaxing atmosphere. Your first step through the door will have you looking directly into the kitchen and seeing the great food being prepared. Next is your seating selection, personally I love the fact that they use comfy chairs and couches, so pick one that appeals to you, even sitting by the knight’s armor displayed in the window if you are so inclined.

Their menu is comprised of too much to list here and the flavors are too broad to describe without starting a second blog, so I just say start with a refreshing adult beverage and let head chef Oli Marsjap whip you up something that you will remember!
